For an unbeliever abortion should be a detestable act. For a Christian it should be thought of as an abomination. The murdering of the unborn works to prove just how depraved of a human race we’ve become. What makes the depravity much worse is the many who are blind to this reality, still marching forward with killing their unborn children while also advocating this act for every women as a right. As it is with sin, it attempts to desensitize its victim periodically so it can keep tightening the hold it has on the sinner. We see this same act playing out with the recent Gosnell murder trial.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortion clinic provider is currently being charged with murdering a female patient and 7 babies who survived late-term abortions. The details are nothing short of satanic. Many people are up-in-arms about the gruesomeness of Gosnell’s actions and the procedures the clinic carried out daily. And we all should be. However there is a much larger deceptive attack taking place before our very own eyes. It is only by God’s discernment and viewing what is taking place through a biblical lens, are we able to see with clarity, the greater danger at hand. Once noticed, we can begin to see the pattern of sin. How it infiltrates the sinner, causes the sinner to compromise and become complacent with the sin, desensitizes the sinner so it can increase and finally deceives the sinner into thinking no sin exists.
Dr. Gosnell was arrested in 2010 after the FBI raided his clinic for a solely different matter. A trial of March 2013 date was given. Major media outlets were mainly silent on this case when it first happened and they were eerily silent when the case went to trial years later. It is no surprise the media was silent considering the millions who are advocates of abortion. A story like this breaking into the public view would certainly cast a black eye on those who are for it. It wasn’t until an editor from USA Today gave the story the attention it deserved after major news outlets were purposely ignoring the trial. That “help”, along with many anti-abortionists becoming vocal is what catapulted the story into finally receiving national attention.
This is one way that sin thrives. It thrives by suppressing truth. Sin gains access to the sinner once the sinner believes the lies of sin. If sin can suppress the truth about itself it can continue to thrive. Just like a parasite. And we see here, sinners aiming to suppress truth. In this case this suppression of truth results in the continued advocation of murder.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” (Romans 1:18)
Looking at things from the opposite direction, the sudden media blitz of the story is astounding. The harsh reality is that a story would not exist if Gosnell had performed the murders successfully to begin with. So really, the outrage was spawned because the murders were not done correctly. By correctly we mean by the standards that other clinics uphold. If they had been, this would have never been a story. Gosnell would still be murdering babies in his clinic at this very moment. However the sin of abortion, was being carried out in a manner that the public was not desensitized to… yet. The country is complacent in the way abortion is typically carried out. In this country, it is legal to murder babies and our society is so depraved women advocate it upon others to do the same thing.
“Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” (Romans 1:32)
Many are now calling for the crucifying of Dr. Gosnell and his staff. As if suddenly we do not live in a country that aborts over 1 million babies a year. As if abortion is not legal. As if no one in our country has ever had an abortion. As if abortion clinics are a new thing shadowed in secrecy. In an effort to allow the sinner to compromise with sin, the sin now demands a rating system. The issue now revolves around which sin is worse. Now we have abortion vs. late-term abortion vs. murders to cover up failed abortions. In reality, they are all acts of murdering a baby. But a rating system allows those who have committed the very same act of abortion to engage in crucifying as if they are somehow sinless because they do not approve of how the sin was carried out. They are under complete deception.
“They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.” (Ephesians 4:18-20)
Sin’s aim is to lead the sinner to death at all costs. The cost however, is death itself. What we are witnessing now is the sin of abortion being brought to our attention in a way that it is not commonly carried out. Abortion isn’t typically thought of as the gruesome, heartless, act of murder towards babies that it is. It is thought of as a “medical procedure between the patient and the physician”. But sin doesn’t stay complacent. It begs to be advanced to lead a people to their death.
We are at a pivotal point in history as a human race now that abortion, in its full, bloody, callous, heartless, totality has been brought to our attention and there is a choice to be made. To ignore abortion or not. In order for sin to advance it will require our nation to keep abortion legal, despite what we know about it. It will require us all to become shocked by the very nature of what abortion is only to become desensitized to it. All of creation should scream out that abortion is murder and murder is wrong. If we do not see this, sin will advance and man will become more depraved. For those who are bewildered by the continued depravity of man scripture tells us that eventually God gives up those who continue to seek the will of sin. When a nation becomes desensitized to murdering its own babies, we can be certain that is precisely what God has done. Given up on those who seek the will of sin.
“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” (Romans 28-32)
May God have mercy on such a wicked people.
