Proverbs 9:10 as well as Psalm 111:10 tells us that fearing God is the beginning of wisdom. Once an unbeliever makes a true confession of faith with a repentant heart, they immediately move into a position of being foolish towards the beginnings of wisdom. It should become readily apparent that we are moving from darkness to light. From death into life. The cross should break us, causing a realization of just how depraved we are and how much we need Jesus.
This realization should last throughout our entire life as Christians. Always bringing us to a place of humility. Sadly many Christians either forget this realization or they never fully understand what they were saved from. It then becomes easy to be extremely judgmental or cold heartened towards the lost. This is a major cause of unbelievers to view Christians as hypocrites or insensitive. As Christians we should be growing in wisdom and should never forget to exercise it when sharing the Gospel with the lost. Let us not jump to conclusions or fail to recognize we were once like the lost. We should listen more than talk, desiring to hear and understand so we can better share the Gospel into their situation. We should neglect ignoring their plight and coming off as insensitive just so we can deliver the Gospel. Delivering the Gospel is to be done in love. It should be done with a humble heart and a desire to see people saved. This song, by ReachRecords artist Derek Minor, gives a good summation of how we can be perceived when we fail to recognize the plight of the lost. When we fail to recognize we were once like them.
